ABOUT:

Helen Kunoth Petyarre was born at Mosquito Bore, Utopia in 1973. Helen is a very gifted artist, and represents a new generation of artists building on the success and recognition of the Utopia arts movement. She is the daughter of well-known artist Nancy Petyarre, whose influence on Helen’s art is observed in her work. Nancy and Helen often paint along side each other, with mother passing the rich history and culture of their family and community onto her daughter. Helen’s paintings exhibit great soul and movement and represent a striking depiction of her country as she understands it. Helen is poised to continue her family’s rich artistic tradition, set by her aunts Gloria, Ada Bird, Kathleen and Jeannie Petyarre, her mother Nancy and her great-aunt Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Helen’s work will help preserve Utopia’s reputation as a hotbed for artistic talent.
